Scuba Swap

For  divers, by divers —
since 1992.

Despite COVID-19 restrictions easing in the province, there are still some hurdles we are unable to overcome at this time and have made the difficult decision not to host our annual Swap in April 2022.  Thank you to the members who completed the survey and provided your input on the event.

We know we will be able to host this event again and can’t wait to work with all of you to make this happen.  Watch for future announcements about a new date.

In the meantime, check out our other upcoming events.  See you at the pool or out on a dive!

About Scuba Swap

The Swap is organized by the Ontario Underwater Explorers scuba club. The club has been around since 1965 and has been hosting swaps since 1992.

New and used gear is offered in the area of more than 3000 sq.ft., making it the largest event of this kind in the province. It gathers divers, dive shops and enthusiasts from all over — a great opportunity to buy at great prices, to sell to motivated buyers — or just to meet old buddies and have a chat.

Selling at Scuba Swap

Bring your gear the day before the event to register it - and we do everything else! You just need to pick up your cheque and unsold gear at the end of the Swap.

Pricing

We encourage pricing the items aggressively for sale. Pricing experts available to help you determine the appropriate price, but the final decision is the seller’s. Two prices can be specified:

  • Initial price

  • Discount price – if the item does not sell by noon, you can opt to have its price lowered

  • Neither price can be under $5 – please bundle smaller items together.

Fees

Registration fee: $10 includes up to 10 items. 50¢ for each addtional item.

Commission: 10% of the value sold.

Participants

OUE Scuba Swap gathers a number of organizations, dive stores and sponsors.  Our goal is to promote SCUBA sport — if you would like to participate in the future swaps, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate.

Prizes

The Swap visitors enter the draw for a variety of free gear donated by participating Dive Stores.

* Details on how to enter the draw in the FAQs

Volunteering

The event is organized by the members and friends of the Ontario Underwater Explorers scuba club who join before April. Volunteer sign-up happens in March at the Etobicoke Olympium Main Floor Meeting Room. There we will be explaining the responsibilities of the different volunteer roles - if you'd like to find out more earlier, contact us.

Scuba Swap
FAQs

How do I get to the Scuba Swap venue?

Scuba Swap is hosted annually at the Rameses Shriners located at 124 Queens Plate Dr in Etobicoke.  Click here to view the map.

Why are we charging registration fees?

When registering the items for sale, we are facing the same costs for the office material and the volunteer effort, regardless of the value of the item and whether it is sold or not; when there are many unsold items, or few sold items are of low total value — we are incurring a loss. Charging the upfront fee is aimed to encourage the sellers to avoid registering many items which are unlikely to be sold.

What methods of payment are available?

Debit, cash or credit accepted.

How do I enter the draw for the door prizes?

All paying visitors get a ballot that is submitted for the draw. You do not have to stick around to wait for the prizes to be drawn — if you are not there, we will contact you based on the contact info that you fill in, and you will be able claim your prize on Thursdays by the end of May.

Are the names of door-prize winners going to be published?

All winners were announced as they were drawn at the Scuba Swap. We will not be posting their names on our website, as it would be a violation of our privacy policy: those filling in a ballot did not grant us the permission to have their name published.

The winners who did not pick up their door prize at the event have been notified by e-mail or phone, and they can pick it up at the Etobicoke Olympium, from 9:30 to 10:30, on the pool deck at the deep end, Thursday evenings until the end of May.

What space is available for vendors?

Scuba Swap is the event dedicated to the diving community and all the vendors are directly involved in the Scuba industry. OUE generally notifies the stores which were present in previous Swaps. The space is allotted to the vendors who confirm their participation while the spots are available.

If you are a dive store or an organization directly related to diving, and you would like to learn more about future Swaps – feel free to contact us.
